Textured & Granular Wedding Bands: A Style Guide

Surfaces with character — hammered, grained and organic textures that give a band a tactile, handmade-looking finish.

Quick answer

Textured and granular finishes give a band a surface with character — from a fine grained texture to gentle hammered dimples. They read tactile and understated, and they hide everyday marks well. Every band is solid 9, 14 or 18ct gold, never plated, and made to your size and carat.

What "textured" and "granular" mean

Texture is any worked surface that moves away from a flat polish. A granular finish is a fine, evenly grained surface — soft and tactile, a little like frosted metal. Other textures include hammered dimples and more organic, bark-like surfaces. All of them add depth and catch the light in a gentle, irregular way.

The range of textures

Common options include a fine granular grain across the whole band; a hammered finish with gentle dimples for a handmade look (see our hammered wedding bands guide); and organic textures that feel less uniform. Textures can also be combined with a smooth element — an organic centre framed by polished edges is a popular contrast.

How texture wears

A textured surface is practical: because it is already irregular, it disguises the fine scratches of daily wear far better than a bright polish. The outer surface carries the texture, while the inside of the band stays smooth for comfort. Over time the texture can soften, but as it is worked into solid gold it can be refreshed. For a softer non-reflective look, compare with our satin & matte wedding bands guide.

Frequently asked questions

What is a granular finish?

It is a fine, evenly grained surface texture — soft and tactile, a little like frosted metal — worked into the gold.

Does a textured finish hide scratches?

Yes. Because the surface is already irregular, it disguises the fine marks of everyday wear better than a bright polish.

Is a textured band comfortable to wear?

Yes. The texture is on the outer surface; the inside of the band stays smooth, and a comfort-fit profile can be added.

Can a textured finish be refreshed?

Yes. Because the texture is worked into solid gold, it can be reworked or refreshed over time.

What metal are textured bands available in?

Solid 9, 14 or 18ct gold in yellow, white or rose — never plated.
