Understand solid gold — how 9ct, 14ct and 18ct differ, and what sets yellow, white and rose apart — so you can choose the right metal for your piece.
The essentials
Carat measures how much pure gold is in the metal: 9ct is 37.5% (hallmark 375), 14ct is 58.5% (585) and 18ct is 75% (750). Higher carat means richer colour and more precious-metal content; lower carat generally means greater everyday hardness and a lower price. Colour — yellow, white or rose — comes from the alloy. All Majestic gold is solid, never plated or filled.
